2016 BMW IBU World Cup Biathlon Event Schedule
Tentative schedule (*subject to change):
Thursday Feb 4th, 11:15 am MST – Men 10km Sprint
Friday Feb 5th, 11:15 am MST – Women 7.5km Sprint
The Sprint Race consists of three laps of skiing, with one bout of prone shooting (five shots) and one bout of standing shooting (five shots). Every missed shot is penalized with one lap around the 150m penalty lap. The men’s race is 10 km long, and the women’s race is 7.5 km long, and has an interval start.
Saturday Feb 6th, 10:00 am MST Men Mass Start, 11:30 am MST Women Mass Start
The Mass Start is a four lap race, measuring 15 km in distance for men and 12.5 km for women, with with four bouts of shooting; two prone, two standing. On the World Cup, only the top 30 athletes participate in the exciting race, as the first across the finish line is crowned the winner.
Sunday Feb 7th, 10:10 am MST Single Mixed Relay (2 people), 2:05 pm MST Mixed Relay (4 people)
The Mixed Relay challenges teams of four to compete head to head over a three laps, with two bouts of shooting each (one prone and one standing). The first leg biathletes start together, and must tag off to their teammate after their leg is complete. Competitors have eight bullets to hit five targets in each bout of shooting, although the last three bullets (called spares), must be hand loaded individually. If the biathlete runs out of spares, he or she must ski one 150m penalty loop for each target missed. Teams consist of two male and two female athletes from each nation. Women ski 6 km loops, while men ski 7.5 km loops.
